For the price (under $10), this was money very well spent and it handles those two tasks perfectly. Buyers must remember that this has only one setting (low). I plan on using it for soups and stews. I would not use it for anything dry (but then again, I wouldn't use my other huge crock pot for anything dry either) because past experience has shown drier applications to cook unevenly in crock pots.
