The problem I encountered was that I was making way too much food for just the two of us. Then I discovered another book by Beth Hensperger, Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Recipes for Two. She says a 1.5 quart slow cooker is the answer to the needs of a small household. She's right. I found this cooker by searching Amazon, got it, and used it with great success. I made lasagna without turning an oven on. It's 90 outside. Do I want lasagna? YES!I used the lasagna noodles you don't have to precook to make it even easier. I thinly sliced summer squash, eggplant and also used baby spinach. Just make sure you put sauce on the bottom, before you start layering. Make it the way you always do. I like to mix tomato paste with ricotta cheese because I love the intense flavor. It's Summer - WHY turn on an oven? There are even cake recipes for crock pots. I have a 4 quart one too but this size is perfect for smaller families. Really easy clean up. I wasn't sure if the smaller size would cook as well. It Does! 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: New model may not have power indicator light, By This review is from: Proctor-Silex 33113Y Oval Citrus 1.5qt Slow Cooker (Kitchen) I just bought the white version of this slow cooker from a large electronics store. They had two versions of this cooker piled together and selling for the same price. I'm guessing it's the newer model that does not have a light to indicate the power is on. Also this model does not have the slot for the labels. These units have a model number ending with a "Y" (as in "Why do you need a power light?"). I suppose the power light isn't really necessary, but it's a good reminder when the unit is left on by mistake.Otherwise, I love the size of the cooker. I don't need to make meals for large parties and it doesn't take up much counter space. Even though it's inexpensive, it still has a glass cover with a rubber gasket and lets you choose between warm, low and high cooking temps. The rubber strap to hold the lid down... Read more |
